Quiet Reflections and Deep Dives

The space between
We live in an age of almost constant noise and motion, yet few stop to ask, ‘how do we measure the value of a pause?’
Poets and musicians have marked time - and space - in their compositions for many centuries. From the caesura’s in ancient texts, to more conventional marks such as the dashes and dots that demark space in the written word, an array of rests of various length, give shape and expression to musical notation. And yet the value is not in the length of the pause, but in its relational quality, context, and the interpretation of reader and musician.
When learning a new piece of music, I’ll often begin with marking the score, shaping phrases, highlighting breaths - both for expression of words and intake of breath - giving shape and direction, and leaving space for the music to grow. The pencil would be there for as long as needed, impermanent markings that become embodied and changed over time. There is room for creativity and choice.
But how often do we choose to pause, and how are we relating to the spaciousness and quality of length and time?

Edge Walking
‘That fall wasn’t a failure. It was an initiation, an invitation. The first courageous embrace of trusting the process when learning something new’
Emma writes on how embracing the unknown can lead to growth, resilience, and clarity.
A reflective guide to navigating life’s transitions and challenges, and an invitation to pause long enough at the dynamic edge to hear the still, small voice within.

Equinox
As the equinox graces our calendars, marking a moment in time when day and night stand in perfect balance, it’s a great time to reflect on the natural cycles of change. The equinox reminds us that transformation is not only natural but essential - a necessary part of growth, much like the shift from winter’s dormancy to spring’s rebirth. The gift of time doesn’t stand still.

Clarity
I loved the quote in the bookshop window: ‘You cannot discover new oceans unless you have the courage to lose sight of the shore.’ Andre Gide. Sometimes finding the courage to step away from the shore is even more acute when the way ahead is emerging, to be discovered, or even simply opaque!

Deeply connect to find renewal
In this season generosity it's easy to forget that this season of giving - of time and of love - is also by its very nature a time of receiving. For those whose lives are lived in the service of others it can feel harder to receive than to give, harder to take time to recharge and take care of ourselves and our wellbeing, but it's so important. It needn't be complicated, but it may take some work to ease into a space that feels restorative.
For the first time in 26 years I will not be working at Christmas. It's a gift, but I'm aware I'm also putting myself under a little pressure to 'do' something, to use the time 'wisely'. After a lot of change this year, I know time to recharge is so important, and 'being' is my heartfelt need this Christmas, so that afterwards I might be energised and my most creative self.
How does this resonate with you?

Easing into the holidays
For those who are caught up in the busy-ness of the holiday season, caring for others and putting their needs and wants first, these ideas are for you! Easing into a busy period may feel difficult at times, but it is absolutely possible to find balance and joy with a little intention.
And for the next season, where there might be a little more expansiveness, there are a few thoughts and ideas about where a coaching conversation can help you dive deeper into your thinking and decision making.

Sea calling for sea change
In this post I share some reflections and thoughts around my recent and biggest life transition. Or transitions… several things happened all at once!
We can get all theoretical about transitions, but I wonder what it might mean instead - at least some of the time - to go barefooted into an unknown future, to embrace our child-like curiosity and courage, open heartedness and compassion?
Will we encounter discomfort or vulnerability? Perhaps. Will we find joy, freedom and gentleness? Most certainly, if we choose and nurture it. Can we discover a deeply connected presence, and a creative and safe space to wonder and test the water as our wisest and most aligned self? Absolutely! Blue Health and mBIT Coaching will help you to do this in a wonderful and unique way.
As a practitioner in both modalities I can help you in make heart-led, aligned and coherent decisions, and together we can co-create next steps forward. In transition and change we can walk on this new and sacred ground, and find the way that your river becomes as vast as an ocean.

Wisdom through Nature Connection
When was the last time you took a walk? A really spacious walk, where you had time to just wander or dawdle like a child, noticing and taking in all that is around you with deep curiosity and awe?
So much in our world rushes by, pushing us forward to the next item on the agenda, to tick off one more thing on the list before taking a break, even urging us though that pause, thoughts racing on towards the next thing, and then the next thing. When was the last time a pause was a serene moment, a deep breath, a refreshing or cool moment in ‘the heat of the day’?

Life's True Anchors
In a world often driven by competition, achievement, and rapid change, it's easy to overlook quieter qualities such as compassion, love, and kindness... and they can seem a bit 'fluffy'.
But the tea-bag wisdom is that compassion, love and kindness aren't just fleeting emotions or nice-to-have traits; they can, hold us - and others - steady amidst life’s storms. When we embrace these qualities, they become our superpowers, guiding us through challenges and connecting us to others in profound ways.

Everyone needs a coach
Coaching conversations are so valuable in a world that often prioritises the quick fix and surface-level interactions.
By embracing the beauty and power of poetic inquiry, and drinking from the deep well offered by a coaching conversation, we can cultivate a richer, more reflective approach to life - one that truly honours the complexities of the human soul and the mysteries of the world around us.

Did you miss me?
'Is it not possible that a place could have huge affection for those who dwell there? Perhaps your place loves having you there. It misses you when you are away and in its secret way rejoices when you return….’
John O’Donohue reflects on space and place in a podcast for On Being, which got me thinking deeply about my connection with blue spaces close to my heart.
